Press Release: Demetrius Tsafaridis named 2019 Hamilton Citizen of the Year by Chamber of Commerce

February 26th 2020 – Hamilton

Demetrius Tsafaridis received the news from Chamber President Keanin Loomis that he has been named the winner of the 2019 Hamilton Citizen of the year award. It is for his many philanthropic efforts, while leading a flourishing local business, that Tsafaridis has been chosen for this prestigious award.  As president and CEO of CareGoTsafaridis also has long history for more than 35 years being a strong supporter of community groups, such as the Eva Rothwell Centre in the North End of Hamilton.

Tsafaridis attributes his generosity to his upbringing “It was how our parents brought us up,” Said Tsafaridis speaking of his Father, Fred, and Mother, Mary. “And when you meet someone like Don MacVicar, (founder of the Eva Rothwell Centre), it’s easy to get involved helping kids, and moms in the area who have a difficult time making ends meet.” This important belief is one he has always tried to instill in his four children.

After receiving the news Tsafaridis said “It caught me off guard, that’s for sure. It’s very exciting and humbling. I’m still trying to take it all in.”

On March 24th 2020 he will be honored at the Chamber’s Outstanding Business Achievement Award ceremony located at Carmen’s Banquet Centre1520 Stone Church Road EastHamilton. Tickets can be purchased from the Hamilton Chamber of Commerce website www.hamiltonchamber.ca

Past recipients of the award include Lincoln Alexander and Ron Foxcroft.
